What are AI marketing services?
AI marketing services are marketing work delivered through AI systems that a provider builds or runs, with a person setting direction and approving what reaches customers. The label covers search, content, social, outbound and reporting, and it is sold as a retainer, a build you keep, software or advice. What matters is which jobs a given offer covers.
AI marketing services are marketing services in which AI systems such as agents, automations and models do the research, drafting, publishing, follow-up and reporting, while people set the strategy, review the output and own every decision that reaches a customer.
Owners already buy marketing help and already use AI. LocaliQ's December 2025 trends report, from 730+ small business owners and marketers (74% in the US or Canada), found nearly 60% using AI for some of their marketing and 60% working with at least one marketing partner1. Providers have responded by adding "AI" to almost every service name, which makes offers harder to compare.
This page is the checklist. The guide to whether you need an AI marketing agency in NZ helps you weigh up whether to bring in a provider at all, and the AI marketing cost guide for Australia and New Zealand sets out prices.
How does an AI marketing agency work week to week?
An AI marketing agency works in a weekly loop. Its systems read your business, your market and last week's numbers, draft the next piece of work, and pass it to a person for review. Approved work ships, results are measured, and the next round starts from what was learned. The review step sets the quality of everything that ships.
In practice the loop has six steps:
- Brief. A written positioning file says who you serve, what you offer and which claims you can prove. Every agent works from it.
- Research. Agents check search demand, competitor pages, AI answers that mention your category, and replies or enquiries from the last week.
- Draft. The system produces the work: a page, a guide, a set of posts, outbound emails, an ad change, a report.
- Review. A named person checks facts, claims, tone and anything involving price or a customer, then approves or sends it back.
- Ship. Approved work goes out from your own accounts, whether published, scheduled or sent.
- Measure. The system logs enquiries, their sources and the cost of each, and feeds them into next week's brief.
The time saving is real at the production end. Salesforce's 2026 State of Marketing, from 4,450 marketers surveyed late 2025, reports that AI agents free up 6 to 7 hours a week for creative and strategic work2. The hours move to review and decisions, so the loop only works when someone owns them. The pillar guide on what an AI marketing agent is explains the agent side in more depth.
Which service lines do AI marketing services cover?
AI marketing services can cover ten lines of work: positioning, AI search, SEO, content, social, outbound, conversion, paid media checks, community and reviews, and measurement with reporting. Most providers sell two to four of them. Ask for the list in writing, so the handoffs between lines are covered and every enquiry has an owner.
| Service line | What the AI does | What you should receive each month |
|---|---|---|
| Positioning | Reads your offers, reviews and competitors; drafts the positioning file and message rules | One current positioning file, updated when offers change |
| AI search (AEO) | Tests which AI answers mention you; drafts answer pages, schema and fact corrections | A question set tested before and after, plus the pages changed |
| SEO | Finds search demand, drafts and updates pages, checks technical health | Pages shipped, Search Console trends, fixes made |
| Content | Researches and drafts guides, then cuts them into email and social pieces | An agreed number of pieces, each traced to a customer question |
| Social | Drafts and schedules posts for one or two channels, summarises comments | A calendar, published posts, and what drew replies |
| Outbound | Builds account lists, researches each one, drafts first emails and follow-ups | Accounts contacted, replies, meetings booked |
| Conversion | Reviews landing pages and enquiry forms; drafts tests and quote follow-ups | Changes made and their effect on enquiries |
| Paid media checks | Reads ad accounts weekly; flags waste and drafts changes for approval | A short weekly note: what to stop, what to scale |
| Community and reviews | Drafts review requests and replies, tracks mentions | Reviews gained, replies sent, issues raised |
| Measurement and reporting | Joins the numbers from each channel into one view | A one-screen report with enquiries, sources and cost per enquiry |
Sellers use different names for the same work. "AI-powered marketing services" and "AI marketing solutions" usually mean the same set of lines. The ten AI marketing examples guide shows one small, working version of each line.
What should AI search and SEO work deliver?
AI search and SEO work should deliver changes on your own website that help Google rank you and help AI assistants name you: clear answer pages, accurate schema, consistent business details and a tested set of customer questions. You should be able to track which questions now return your business, alongside rankings and enquiries from search.
This line matters more each year because fewer searches end in a click. SparkToro found 68.01% of US Google searches ended without a click from January to April 2026, up from 60.45% in 20243. Buyers also ask assistants directly: BrightLocal's 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey of 1,002 US consumers found 45% used AI tools such as ChatGPT to find local recommendations, up from 6%4.
Ask the provider to show its method on a page you can read. Answer engine optimisation rests on research that is still young; Aggarwal and colleagues' KDD 2024 paper found content changes could lift visibility in generative engine answers by up to 40%5 on a research benchmark. A provider promising a guaranteed spot in ChatGPT is overselling. The guide to answer engine optimisation sets out what the work involves.
What should the other service lines deliver?
Every other line should deliver something you can count each month and keep afterwards: published pieces, sent emails, changed pages, replies logged, a report you can read in five minutes. If a line produces activity without a number attached, ask what it is for and how you would know it worked.
Content and social
Content should answer questions your customers already ask, on a schedule you can sustain. A good service researches the question, drafts the guide, and cuts it into email and social pieces so one piece of research feeds several channels. Social should focus on one or two channels where your buyers spend time. Expect a calendar a month ahead and a note on which posts drew replies. A content engine is the name for this setup once it runs every week.
Outbound
Outbound covers list building, account research and short personal first emails with follow-ups. A person should approve every first message and handle every reply. In New Zealand the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act applies, and in Australia the Spam Act, so ask how consent, sender identification and unsubscribes are handled before anything is sent.
Conversion and paid media checks
Conversion work looks at what happens after someone arrives: the landing page, the form, the speed of the reply, the quote follow-up. Paid media checks are a weekly read of your ad accounts with a short note on what to stop and what to scale, with any change to spend approved by you. For large paid media programmes and brand campaigns, a traditional agency with a media buying team is still the right answer.
Community, reviews and reporting
Review work drafts requests to happy customers and replies to every review for a person to send. Reporting joins the channels into one view built around enquiries and cost per enquiry. If a provider reports impressions and follower counts alone, the report is describing activity, which is cheaper to produce than results.
What must a person on your side still own?
A person on your side must still own positioning, pricing, offers, claims about results, the marketing budget and every conversation with a buyer. They also review the work on a set day each week. AI marketing services move the production off your desk; the judgement about what your business says stays with you.
Plan for one to two hours a week of review time from someone who knows the business. That person approves anything published under your name, any customer contact and any change to spend. The arrangement has a name, human in the loop, and of everything in this checklist it is the part most worth getting right.
Review is a gap in many businesses today. The National AI Centre's SME AI Pulse for December 2025 to February 2026 found only about half of current AI users check AI outputs before they affect customers6. A good provider builds the review into the workflow and tells you when something is waiting for your approval.
Keep these on your side of the table:
- The positioning file and the list of claims you can prove
- Prices, discounts, guarantees and offer terms
- The monthly budget and any change to ad spend
- Replies to prospects, complaints and anything legal
- The accounts themselves: website, ad accounts, email platform, analytics, social pages
Which delivery model fits: retainer, build and handover, software or consulting?
AI marketing services come in four delivery models. A done-for-you retainer runs the work for you each month. A build and handover installs the systems in your accounts and trains your team to run them. Software gives you the tools to run yourself. Consulting gives you a plan. Each suits a different amount of in-house time.
| Model | What it includes | Usual pricing shape | What you keep at the end | Suits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Done-for-you retainer | The provider's systems run your marketing; you approve | Monthly fee, often with a minimum term | The published work; the systems usually stay with the provider | No one inside has hours for marketing |
| Build and handover | Agents and workflows installed on your accounts, documented, with your team trained | Project fee, then your own running costs | The systems, prompts, documentation and data | A team member has a few hours a week to run it |
| Software | An AI marketing platform or set of tools you operate | Monthly subscription per seat or plan | Your content, while you pay for the tool | Someone inside has time and skill |
| Consulting | A written plan, tool choices, a privacy review, training | Day rate or fixed project fee | The plan and whatever your team builds from it | You want a plan before you buy anything |
Pricing is rarely published in either country. A June 2026 audit by Digital Nomads HQ of 411 service lines across 140 Australian agencies found 78% publish no pricing7, so get a written price before the second meeting. The comparison of AI marketing services against AI marketing tools goes further into the software route.
What should a proposal for AI marketing services include?
A proposal for AI marketing services should name each service line, its monthly deliverables, the person who approves the work, the accounts in your name, the numbers reported, the price and what it covers, the term and notice period, and what is handed over at the end. Use the checklist below to compare proposals line by line.
| Item | What good looks like | Ask if missing |
|---|---|---|
| Service lines | Each line named, with what is out of scope | "Which of the ten lines are included, and which are not?" |
| Monthly deliverables | Counts or outputs per line, such as pages, emails or reports | "What will exist at the end of month one that does not exist today?" |
| Systems and tools | The agents and tools named, with where your data is processed | "Which AI tools touch customer information?" |
| Review and approval | A named reviewer on each side and a review day | "Who approves claims, prices and outbound messages?" |
| Ownership | Accounts, files, prompts and data in your name from day one | "What do we keep if we stop?" |
| Measurement | Two to four numbers, starting with enquiries and cost per enquiry | "Which of our numbers will you report, and how often?" |
| Price | A written figure, with GST, ad spend and tool costs stated separately | "What costs sit outside this fee?" |
| Term and exit | Minimum term, notice period and a handover list | "What does the handover include, and how long does it take?" |
| Privacy | How the work meets the NZ Privacy Act 2020 or the Australian Privacy Act | "Have you done a privacy assessment for these tools?" |
The guide to choosing an AI marketing provider turns these items into twelve questions and a scoring table, and the AI marketing scope of work guide shows how to write the scope itself. For a NZ and Australian overview of the options, explore the AI marketing services hub for both countries.
Where Flow AI fits
Flow AI provides AI marketing services for businesses in New Zealand and Australia. Amber Lan, an AI marketing engineer in Auckland, builds the AI agents that run search, content, outbound and reporting with your team, then hands them over. On the delivery table above, that is the build and handover model.
Flow Intelligence handles positioning, and ten agents cover the service lines listed on this page, installed on your own accounts. Each build starts with a written scope and is priced per project. It ends with a documented handover, and from there your team owns it and keeps it running. You can explore the systems in the open: the skill library, free agent templates, and a case study of a six-month marketing function. Companies hiring a marketing engineer can reach Amber at the hiring page.
The short version
AI marketing services cover up to ten lines of marketing work, from positioning and AI search to outbound and reporting. A good offer names each line it covers, what each delivers every month, who approves the work, and what you keep when it ends.
You still own the strategy, the claims, the budget and the conversations with buyers, and someone on your side needs an hour or two a week to review. Get every proposal in writing and compare them against the checklist above.

Questions owners ask
What do AI marketing services include?
AI marketing services usually include some mix of positioning, AI search optimisation, SEO, content, social media, outbound prospecting, conversion work, paid media checks, community and review management, and measurement with reporting. Few providers cover all of them. Ask each one to list the lines it covers, what each delivers every month, and which person approves the work before it reaches customers.
How does an AI marketing agency work?
An AI marketing agency runs a weekly loop. Its systems read your business, your market and last week's results, then draft the next piece of work. A person reviews the draft, approves or corrects it, and it ships. The results are measured and feed the next round. The quality of the review step decides the quality of the work.
What does an AI marketing agency do that a normal agency does not?
An AI marketing agency does more of the production with systems: research, first drafts, repurposing, scheduling, follow-up and reporting. That should show up as faster turnaround, more output for the same budget, or a lower price. A normal agency may use AI tools too. The difference is whether you can see the systems running and whether the saving reaches you.
What should I still do myself if I buy AI marketing services?
You still own positioning, pricing, offers, claims about results, the budget, and every conversation with a buyer. You also need one named person who reviews and approves work on a set day each week. AI marketing services work best when someone on your side has protected time to review, so plan for one to two hours a week.
Are AI-powered marketing services cheaper than an agency?
Sometimes. Published prices are rare in both countries: Digital Nomads HQ's June 2026 audit of 140 Australian agencies found 78% publish no pricing. A productised AI service can cost less than a traditional retainer for the same scope, while a build you keep has a project fee up front and lower running costs after. Compare the written scopes side by side.
What should an AI marketing services proposal include?
A proposal should name each service line, the monthly deliverables for each, who reviews and approves the work, which accounts and files are in your name, the numbers that will be reported, the price and what it covers, the minimum term and notice period, and what is handed over when the engagement ends. Ask for anything missing to be added in writing before you sign.
